Programs
Our Boxing Program
The WNC boxing program has been operating for several decades and is nationally recognized in the boxing community. Loreto Garza, one of the program’s first boxers, even won the World Championship title in 1990. Many of our past participants have garnered prestigious recognition as Golden Gloves winners, Valley Boxing Association Boxer of the Year award recipients, U.S. Olympic Boxing Team members, and professionally ranked boxers. The long serving coaches of the WNC boxing program, Don Conley and Robert Garcia, have assisted in the training of many local fighters, including Miguel Pantoja, Willie Jorrin, Tony Lopez and Richard Duran.
We are currently adjusting the format of the boxing and fitness programs
to better suit the need of the members of our community.
Our Dance Programs
The WNC has housed a wide range of dance groups and programs including traditional native Aztec dancing, Salsa, Cuban Rueda and breakdancing. The goals of the dance programs vary from the spiritual to historical, from cultural understanding to the pure joy of dance.
The Barrio Art Program
The WNC has been the site for the highly regarded Barrio Arts Program for over 30 years. The roots of this California State University Sacramento (CSUS) arts project extend from the struggles of the 1960s and early 1970s for access to higher education for Chicano youth. The project provides CSUS liberal arts students who are considering a career in teaching with valuable opportunities to work in a diverse population as a required service-learning course. The program serves K-12th grade students, parents and grandparents in the community.
